KOFXI Sawakoro Festival 2023

Preface

Sawakoro Festival is the biggest annual KOFXI 3on3 tournament in the world, hosted by the famous Nagoya-based player of the same name. The German community has strong ties with the Japanese KOFXI player base since years now, with annual visits to Japan and even visits from Sawakoro to Germany. My group of players, based around the Mad Gear club in Frankfurt, finally decided to participate in the festival for the first time:

We left for Japan in late September, and after some brawls in Tokyo (Good Day 21[1][2], Shinjuku Sportsland[3][4]) and Fukuoka (G-Stage Nanakuma[5]), we finally arrived in Nagoya on Friday, October 6th.

We arrived at port24 in Nagoya on Friday, the arcade legendary for KOFXI in Yagoto (south-east Nagoya).

A lot of players from all over Japan and Taiwan were already present and going at it several XI-Setups. We were warmly welcomed by everybody and brought (and received) our first batch of (personal) presents with us. Sawakoro gifted me this awesome Geese that was a KOFXV random preorder bonus (hard to get):
 

I almost took no fotos on that evening, there was just too much excitement to play, and we went at it immediately, until closing time.
This is the tournament key art - above it you can see a custom artwork gifted to port24 by Kingcar a few years ago, the leader of the InsertGame-Dojo in Solingen, Germany, who also play KOFXI:
